Recognizing the Symptoms...

Two of the most common life-threatening emergencies are heart attacks and strokes. In both cases, time is crucial. Being able to recognize the symptoms can help save the life of you or someone you love:

CHEST PAIN

Chest pain is often a symptom of heart disease. It occurs when the blood vessels leading to the heart are blocked. This results in less blood, and therefore less oxygen, reaching the heart muscle. When the heart muscle is deprived of oxygen, chest pain and other symptoms result.

Pressure or squeezing chest pain is the classic description of chest pain due to coronary artery disease. Chest pain of any kind deserves a medical evaluation to determine its cause.

Other symptoms may include:

  • Nausea
  • Dizziness
  • Shortness of breath & difficulty breathing
  • Unexplained anxiety
  • Weakness or fatigue
  • Palpitations
  • Cold sweat
  • Paleness

Emergency Services

In the practice of emergent care, time is everything. Parkridge Medical Center's Emergency Department, an Accredited Chest Pain Center, is located in downtown Chattanooga, only minutes away from most of the southeastern Tennessee and north Georgia areas we serve. Our accessibility is enhanced by ample, free parking, just steps away from the Emergency Department entrance. Our staff is dedicated to providing the highest quality care as quickly as possible.

The average emergency patient receives an assessment of his/her condition within 15 minutes of arrival. Bedside registration, which is completed following a physician assessment, is usually as simple as answering a few questions about insurance and copays.

Parkridge's emergency department has 19 patient rooms and provides many specialties including orthopaedics, ENT, cardiovascular illness, injuries, minor trauma, acute illness, behavioral health and many others. Parkridge’s status as an Accredited Chest Pain center makes it a vital resource for those experiencing symptoms of heart attack.  There are a number of processes in place to guarantee that patients receive the best treatment possible. Choose Parkridge to serve your emergent care needs.
